Getinge Academy initiates endoscopy decontamination education
To satisfy the strict procedures, requirements for quality assurance, and laws and regulations pertaining to the cleaning and disinfecting of endoscopy equipment, Getinge Academy in Sweden has begun offering its own course for endoscopy department personnel.

Laws, regulations and guidelines
All personnel in endoscopy departments, nurses and med-tech engineers are invited to receive training on how to decontaminate endoscopes according to healthcare standards and norms.

Great need for this type of training
The need for this training is great and the Lancer Academy in the UK has successfully delivered courses, since 2005. The first, two-day course in Getinge, Sweden took place at the Getinge Academy in September 2011.

Unlike the majority of courses offered by the Getinge Academy, endoscopy cleaning and disinfection training is completely product independent. Because it was so well received in Getinge, the course will now be launched throughout the organization according to Bengt Ternström, Training Director at Getinge Academy in Sweden.

The course will be presented at the European Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Nurses and Associates (ESGENA) conference in Stockholm, 22-24 October.
