Utilizing the techniques developed by Bowie and Dick the Getinge Daily Performance Monitor provides a reliable, simple method of testing the mechanical air removal steam sterilizer (vacuum or pressure vacuum pulsing). A daily test of all mechanical air removal steam sterilizers by the Bowie Dick Technique using the Daily Performance Monitor will check the sterilizer's mechanical efficiency. This test is used to determine if all the air has been removed and if air tightness is maintained. Even in a properly working mechanical air removal system, air can leak into the sterilizer from door gaskets and valves. Air entering the chamber can be trapped within packages in the sterilizer. These air pockets can cause a sterilization failure and unsterile packages may result.
